Activities & Athletics
The Shawnee Mission School District offers a wide variety of sports and activities for middle school students under the guidance of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) during the fall, winter, and spring seasons. These programs, for the most part, are provided outside the regular school day and participation is strongly encouraged because it promotes health/well-being, builds confidence, teamwork and leadership.
Physical Examinations are required by all students who wish to participate in athletics and cheer in grades 7-12 and dance in grades 9-12.
The KSHSAA pre-participation physical examination (PPE) is required annually and shall not be taken earlier than May 1 preceding the school year for which it is applicable.
The Kansas State High School Activities Association recommends completion of this evaluation at least one month prior to the first practice to allow time for correction of deficiencies and implementation of conditioning recommendations.
